Canton’s wrestling season got off to a good start on Wednesday with a win over Massena. Starting off on the right foot is a big factor to a successful season.
“As a team we still have a lot of growing to do and we need to stay focused but starting off with a win gets us some momentum heading into Saturday’s dual tournament at APW,” said Coach Mike Haycook of his team’s start to the season.
Canton and Massena went back and forth, but Senior Ezra Williams put the match away at 126 lbs. with his pin, ensuring the Bears would get the win with one match remaining. Another notable win was by Canton’s Logan McCord who won in his first varsity match.
The Bears then went on the road to face multiple teams in a round robin tournament at APW, the results are shown below:
Canton over Moravia 45-30
Canton over Jordan Eldridge 47-20
APW over Canton 37-36 – was a tie, decided by criteria.
