Varsity Swimming bounces back with two wins

Canton 118, Potsdam 52

The Bears hopped into the pool on Oct. 18 with eyes set on starting fresh. And they did just that on senior night, as they beat Potsdam 118-52 to stay undefeated in league play as sectionals approaches at Maxcy Hall for the Bears.

On senior night, four seniors were honored for their hard work and accomplishments. Seniors include Emma Berg, Carmen Mussen, Kayla Larrabee, and Madison Mitchell. The Bears kicked off their night as they won first and third in the 200 Medley Relay, the winning relay of Berg, Mussen, Larrabee, Mitchell with a time of 2:19.22. Behind impressive swims from key players like Kaitlyn Redfern in the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Backstroke with times of 2:23.04 and 1:05.75, respectively, and Mussen in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke with times of 1:06.75 and 1:27.59, the Bears were able to grab their first win of the week and leap to 6-0-1

Canton 115, Gouverneur 41

The Varsity Swimming team continued their strong week as they took on the Wildcats Oct. 21 in the Bears den. Canton swam a solid and complete meet. Winning first place in nine of the 11 events and winning 115-41 overall.

The Bears came out of the gates hot after a win on Tuesday, winning first place in the first nine events and securing the overall win to go to 2-0 on the week for meets. Starting off things was the relay of Wilson, Salvi-Miguel, Alguire, Moumen with a time of 2:18.16 in the 200 medley relay. Canton also won second and fourth in that event. It was a well rounded effort for the Bears and multiple individuals showed out with their times and finishes. Alexis Stuntz won two individual events, the 200 Freestyle and the 100 backstroke with times of 2:09.14 and 1:05.67. Tessa Alguire also performed well, with two first places and two wins in relays, finishing first in the 100 Butterfly and the 50 freestyle with times of 1:11.49 and 28.01. Canton swam well in a bounce back week with sectionals right around the corner.
