In a thrilling fashion the Bears JV Girls Soccer team squeaked out a close win over Salmon River to stay in first place last week. Playing without their regular starting goaltender, Jenna Larrabee stepped in to help the team maintain its top spot in the standings and put up an impressive performance. She played with confidence and aggression, stopping multiple shots with diving saves. Larrabee played well despite having little experience and with the help of a strong offense, the Bears pulled through with a 5-4 victory.
The Bears prolific offense helped to take some of the stress off of their new goalie. Leading things off for the Bears was Olivia Sommerstein who had an impressive left foot finish off of a Sara Aldous cross. Kailin Backus had another multi-goal game, which resulted in a hat trick including two breakaways and an unassisted goal. To finish things off Sara Aldous had a nice header over the goalie to register the game-winning goal.
The Bears then travelled to Malone where they battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie. Olivia Sommerstein tallied the Bears’ only goal. The Bears were still without their number one goalie. This time Ella Mousaw took on the challenge along with Larrabee. Mousaw didn’t let in a goal and played a half and both overtimes. Larrabee allowed just one goal.
