Varsity Volleyball with a bounce back win to end the week

Salmon River 3, Canton 1

The Bears took on the Shamrocks last Monday night, Sept. 26 in the Houli Dome. That night Salmon River handed Canton their first loss of the season. Salmon River won three sets to one in the matchup against the Bears.

Salmon River came hot of the gate on Monday, defeating the Bears 25-12 in the first set and getting the advantage to start the game. But after a tough first set the Bears bounced back and won the second set with authority, 25-15. But then Salmon River got into a rhythm, winning the third set 25-19 and the fourth set 25-21 to seal the game and the victory for the Shamrocks. Notable stats for the Bears, Ava Hoy leading the charge for the Bears with 17 kills and six points. Katie Metcalf with 14 points, seven digs and four aces. And finally Emma Logan with an all-around solid performance with four points, four assists and three aces. This loss knocks the Bears overall record to 6-1 on the season.

Canton 3, Malone 1

The Bears had a nice bounce back win Sept. 29 in Malone, defeating the Huskies three sets to one. This win got the Bears back on track and improved their resume to an impressive 7-1.

There was not a blowout set in this entire game. No matter who won the set it was close or went into extra time. Canton came out with determination after their tough loss on Monday night, winning the first set 25-22 over the Huskies. And then in the second set defeating the Huskies 25-14 to jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the game. In the third set it was back and forth and finally after everything including extra time, Malone extended the game, winning the third set 26-24 over the Bears and forcing a fourth set. But Canton took over in the fourth, winning that set 25-16 and the game.

Canton had arguably one of their best games this year from a statistics point. Absolutely decking out the stat sheet to propel them to a win, Katie Metcalf with 19 points, 11 aces, five digs and three kills. Ava Hoy finished with 14 kills, 15 points and 11 aces. And finally Laurel Whittier tallied eight points, seven assists and two digs. This kind of performance after a loss shows how determined and resilient this team. The Bears are now 7-1, and look to keep this good momentum going into next week.
