Varsity Volleyball Stays Perfect

Canton 3, OFA 0

In a home match for the Bears on Sept. 20, they swept the Blue Devils. This win propels the Bears to 5-0 on the season and solidifies them as the team to beat in Section X.

In the first set of the game the Devils and the Bears were going back and forth with points and in the end the Bears ended up winning the set 25-21. And then Canton just took over the game, with a balanced attack from the Bears and the Devils had no answer, with Canton winning the next two sets 25-13 and sweeping the Devils. The Bears had everyone chipping in on Monday, with four players notching six or more points.

Coach Wentworth was pleased with how the Bears battled in the game.

“We played a solid match and kept our poise through a tough first set,” she said. “We were mentally tough and developed more confidence as the match went on.”

This was a statement win for the Bears as they look to keep rolling.

Canton 3, Brushton-Moira 1

To cap off the week, the Bears traveled to Brushton-Moira to take on the Panthers. Canton came out victorious on Thursday night, launching their resume to an impressive 6-0.

To start off the night the Bears dominated in the first set, winning 25-4 against the Wildcats. It seemed that the Bears would be on an easy path to another win. But it was just the opposite, when the Wildcats fired back winning the second set 25-22. But despite the efforts of the Wildcats, the Bears prevailed winning the next two sets 25-20 and 25-12 to seal the victory for the Bears.

“The team worked hard against a scrappy opponent and were able to secure a win with multiple players in different positions,” Wentworth said after the game. “The girls are very supportive of each other and that helps drive their success.”

This win pushes the Bears to an undefeated 6-0 as they look to keep it rolling next week.
