Turnovers Bring Down Bears

Malone 26, Canton 6

On Saturday the 24th the Golden Bears Football Team fell to the Huskies of Malone.

The Huskies came out of the gate strong, scoring on their first drive by a scramble from Malone Junior Quarterback Logan Peck. On the Bears’ first drive they turned the ball over on downs.

The Bears got the ball back off an interception by Junior Safety Carter Shatraw. Once the Bears got the ball back, they scored their only touchdown of the day off a six yard rush from Sophomore Quarterback Charlie Todd. Todd threw for 90 yards and rushed for 27 of the Bears’ total 225. Senior David Zuhlsdorf made a return playing most of the game offensively at wide receiver for the Bears and had a great over the shoulder catch for 43 yards. The Bears are hopeful to see more of Zuhlsdorf in the next week.

Defensively the Bears had one standout player in Junior Lineman Caleb Murcray who led the team with eight tackles and two tackle for losses. Senior James Bailey made his return game for the Bears and had seven total tackles.

The Bears had a total three turnovers on the game and Malone took advantage and scoring off two, which caused the Bears’ disappointing loss on Saturday.

The Bears will play next at home against the Gouverneur Wildcats on Friday, the 30th at 4:15 p.m.
