In Canton on Sept. 20, Canton 1, Massena 0.

On a wet and muddy afternoon in Canton, the JV boys hosted Massena in a Central Division match up. In the first half the Raiders out shot the Bears eight shots to one but in the second half the young Cubs changed gears.

“We were playing a little short handed and I also didn’t feel like we were going hard to the ball in the first half. The second half was much better and it showed on the score board,” said Coach Mike Wentworth.

With five minutes left in the game Josh McLear slid one across to Gavin Schryver who banged it home for the score. That was the only goal of the game as the Bears won their seventh game of the year by the score of 1-0.

Zadok Roiger made 12 saves in the winning cause.

In Canton on Sept. 23, Canton 8, Potsdam 0

The Canton boys JV Soccer team hosted their Route 11 rival, the Potsdam Sandstoners on Friday and celebrated the kick off of Hall of Fame weekend by outscoring them 8-0. With the win the Bears push their season record to 8-0 on the year.

Daniel Creurer moved up to play offense and scored the first hat trick of his career.

“DC usually plays stopper for us but in the second half we put him up on the line and he took advantage of the opportunity,” Wentworth said. “We may see him up there again if we need a goal.”

Gavin Schryver, Andrew Brown(2), Will Andes, and Lucas Howie also scored goals in the game.

In Canton on a wet afternoon Sept. 26, Bears 6, Carthage 0

The Canton boys JV Soccer team extended their winning streak by out scoring Carthage by the score of 6-0. It was a wet and sloppy day and the game even had to move to a dryer field in the second half because of poor footing.

Scoring the Canton goals were Grady Nee (2), Gavin Schryver, Lucas Howie, Paul Redfern and Tomi Husinic.

“It was a wet muddy day but as legendary Coach Willette always used to say. ‘Bears play better in the rain,'”  said Coach Wentworth.

The boys play again on Friday when they travel to Lowville for a tough non-league match up.
