The varsity volleyball team traveled to Gouverneur and picked up right where they left off last season with a dominant 3-0 win on Thursday night, Sept. 8 against the Wildcats in their season opener.

In the battle against the Wildcats, Ava Hoy led the charge for the Bears with 13 kills and two aces. With her height and aggressive play style she will be a force for the bears this year, filling the big shoes of Katie Bennett, who was the executioner for the Bears in their championship run last year.
Also noticeable stats from the the game on Thursday, Courtney Peters with eight assists, Laurel Whittier with four assists and three aces and Katie Metcalf with two aces and two kills. Many other players contributed to the win as well.
Head Coach Carla Wentworth was very pleased with how the team performed in their first game of the season.
“The team played well for their opening match,” she said. “They were getting serves in play and putting
pressure on their defense throughout the night. We started to find our rhythm toward the end of
the match. This team is dynamic and exciting to watch play.”
The Bears look to keep this momentum rolling as they face off against Madrid-Waddington this Monday at the Houli Dome. The game starts at 6 p.m. Make sure to get there a little early to catch some of the JV game.
