The boys varsity soccer team traveled to Gouverneur for their first Section X game of the season and left with a resounding 8-3 victory on Sept. 8.

The Bears got off to a hot start when Senior Brad Frank put one in 53 seconds in, off of a feed from Junior Jonney Mclear. The Bears continued the pressure, but failed to capitalize on their chances. After a miscommunication on the defensive end, the Wildcats scored on a breakaway to even the game, 1-1.
The Bears answered as Frank set Junior Jacob Rosales up for their their second goal. Junior Ethan Francey then took matters into his own hands, as he put the Bears up 3-1 on his unassisted goal. Gouverneur answered on a penalty shot, to put the game at 3-2 going into the half.
Despite the first half domination, the Bears only found themselves up by one. They outshot the Wildcats 14-3, but Gouverneur capitalized on their chances when the Bears didn’t.
Going into the second half, the Bears had one thing in mind: putting the ball in the net. That they did, as scoring four times within the first 15 minutes of the second half. Senior Vincent Nelson-Fuse scored first, off of a pass from Frank. Junior Ryan Jones followed up his unfruitful offensive first half with two lasers into the bottom right corner, off of passes from Nelson-Fuse and Mclear. Senior Josh Aldous fired one off the goalie and Nelson-Fuse put it home for his second of the game. Senior Nate Romano later scored on a penalty shot, and the Bears outscored the Wildcats 5-1 in the second half and won the game, 8-3. Sophomore goaltender Jackson Ames had six saves in the winning effort.
