Varsity Softball Falls to Ichabod Crane in NYS Regional Final

The No. 12 ranked Canton Golden Bears (19-0) faced No. 1 ranked Ichabod Crane (22-0) in the New York State regional finals at SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon, with the winner earning a trip to Long Island to play in the NYS final four this weekend.

Ichabod topped Canton by the score of 13-1. Sophomore Ava Hoy took the loss on the mound although she only gave up four hits and struck out eight in the game. Offensively, the Bears only scraped up three total hits. Courtney Peters was 2-2 and Olivia Sero was 1-2 in the game.

“This was a great group of girls and parents.  We had an amazing season.  Ichabod Crane is a good team and they played better than we did today,” Head Coach Mike Wentworth said. “Unfortunately, today was just not our day. We are going to lose three great seniors to graduation in Cate DeCoteau, Hailey Jordan and Alyssa Jacobs and they will be missed very much. On the bright side though, everyone else is back next year along with a very good sophomore class. Thank you to everyone who came to the game Saturday, the support from the Golden Bear nation was awesome!”
