Sophomore Ryan Jones was the low scorer among the trio of Golden Bears after round one of the New York State Boys Golf Championships Sunday. Jones, who shot 76 at Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira, sits tied for 25th after the first of two rounds for the State Championship.
Also competing for the Bears at the state tournament are juniors Sam Sieminski and John O’Neill, who shot 86 and 94 respectively on Sunday. All three golfers will play again tomorrow in the second and final round at Mark Twain Golf Course.
Jones is second among golfers from Section X at the state tournament. Potsdam’s Tyler Berkman carded a first round 75, good for a tie for 20th and one stroke ahead of Jones.
