Canton  20,  Edwards Knox 1

The Canton Golden Bears Varsity Softball finally played at home again after a five game road trip and squared off with the tough Edwards Knox Cougars and their All State pitcher Cadey Wheat.  The Bears got down in the first inning after a walk, wild pitch and a single by Wheat but then scored 20 unanswered runs to come away with a 20-1 victory.

Ava Hoy started in the circle and pitched three innings, striking out seven.  Hadley Ahlguire held the lead in her one inning in the circle striking out three.  Courtney Peters then came in for the close, pitching a scoreless fifth inning.

The Bears may have had their strongest offensive performance of the year, pounding out 20 hits in the five inning game.  Leading the way was Hadley Alguire (3-3), Sydney Francis (3-4), Ava Hoy (4-4), with a double and a triple and Olivia Sero (3-3).   Courtney Peters, Lucy DeCoteau,Cate DeCoteau and Alyssa Jacob also had two hits in the game.

“I was shocked how well we hit the ball today off a quality pitcher.  Everyone in the line up came to the plate looking to swing the bat.  It is fun to see things coming together and all the time and hard work paying off.  from Coach Mike Wentworth.

The Bears will be back on the diamond on Saturday morning when the Salmon River Shamrocks travel to Ike  Nobel fields for a 10am first pitch.
