In Gouverneur on Tuesday at Riverview Park, Canton 10 Gouverneur 7
The Canton Golden Bears Varsity Softball team made the trip down route 11 to face the improved Gouverneur Wildcats. The Bears jumped out early but had to hold back a late rally from the Cats to win the game 10-7.
Hadley Alguire started and closed the game in the circle striking out seven. Ava Hoy also pitched an inning and a third and struck out four.
Hoy and Alguire led the Bears with the bats going 3-4 . Alguire had two doubles and 3 RBI and Hoy one double and two RBI. Cate DeCoteau and Lucy DeCoteau each had two hits in the game.
“Those are the types of games when you see how good you really are. We started out strong but had to hold them off in the end for the win. We have to play pressure games like that to keep getting better.” said Coach Mike Wentworth
The Bears will travel the other direction on Wednesday as they will face Central division rival, St. Lawrence Central Larries in Brasher. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00.
