The Canton Bears Varsity Baseball team defeated Gouverneur, 10-0. A mercy rule win for the Bears, the bats came alive after a lackluster performance at the plate the previous day against Carthage.
Canton found ways to drive in runs with guys on base, and made better baserunning decisions than the game against Malone. Canton’s defense was almost flawless today, making only one error and not costing any runs. David Zuhlsdorf was key to the Bears success, striking out 10 batters in a six inning complete game.
Against Carthage, the Bears struggled offensively and defensively, and saw more strikeouts in that game than any other this season. Canton ended the game by getting mercy ruled for the first time this year, 12-0.
The Bears played Malone last Friday, coming away with a 10-6 win. The Canton defense struggled, and the Malone bats were hot. Fortunately, the Bears bats forced Malone errors and eventually forced runs.
Canton played Massena last week as well, coming away with another 10-0 victory, mostly in part to the superior hitting by Canton. Canton plays again Thursday against Potsdam, away at 4:30 p.m.
