Canton 19, Gouverneur 0
The Canton Golden Bears honored legendary Canton Softball Coach Wayne Willette today as they sported their new white jerseys with a “WW” on the shoulder for Coach Willette. “Every time we wear those jerseys I will think of him. I think he would have been proud of this group of girls today.” said Head Coach Mike Wentworth.
The Bears finally broke out their bats out of winter storage and pounded out nineteen hits and scored 19 runs against the visiting Gouveneur Wildcats. Canton scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. Leading the offense was Katie Metcalf and Hadley Alguire who each had three hits. Alguire smacked three doubles in the game. Sydnee Francis, Cate DeCoteau and Olivia Sero also had two hits with DeCoteau crushing a triple in the second inning.
On the mound Hadley Alguire, Courtney Peters and Ava Hoy combined for a two hit shutout.
“It was nice to see the girls break out and swing the bat today. The first three games we had to get creative to score but today we seemed much more aggressive at the plate.”
Canton is scheduled to be back on the diamond on Wednesday as they are traveling to Malone. First pitch 4:30.
