Boys Varsity Basketball sweeps season series against Warriors

The Canton Golden Bears swept the season series against the Indian River Warriors this previous Monday with a final score of 63-45 in favor of the Bears.

Chris Downs led all scoring for the Bears with 25 points and Sam Roiger chipped in 14 of his own. The Warriors came out to play, their top scorer notching 19 points. They started out much better than in the previous game against the Bears. In the first meeting, the Warriors dug themselves into a hole that they could not get out of but it was different in this game.

Only down seven at the half in this game, compared to the 19 that they were down in the first meeting, the game was in striking distance for them after the first half of play. On another note, the Bears struggled in the first half offensively. After the first half of play, the Bears were yet to make a shot from downtown. Canton would start to pull away and then the Warriors would just claw back enough to keep the game close, something they were not able to do in the first game.

The second half of play started and the Bears started to pull away, outscoring Indian River by nine points in the third quarter. Behind 14 points from Chris Downs in the second half the Bears eventually were able to pull away and secure the win.

The Bears will play their first playoff game this Friday against the Potsdam Sandstoners in the Houli Dome.
