JV Score: Canton: 39 Massena: 23
The Canton JV girls Basketball game played host to the Massena Red Raiders on Friday night in Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium. Earlier in the year, the Raiders beat the Bears by one point in Massena in a tight game. On Friday it was a very different story as the young Bears showed their tough defensive style of play and avenged the loss from earlier in the season by out-scoring the Raiders by the score of 39-23.

“We have all been waiting to play this game. This group of girls has improved a lot from the last time we played. As they usually do, we played very good defense today and it was nice to see the balanced scoring from our team tonight,” stated head coach Mike Wentworth.

The Bears were led in scoring by eighth grader Olivia White who scored 14 points/4 steals and the freshman duo of Vivian Coburn 9 points/8 assists, Winnie Downs 5 points/ 6 Rebounds. Jenna Larrabee and Tessa Alguire continued their hard work on the boards by pulling down 8 and 9 rebounds on the night. “Those two girls take pride in boxing out and getting rebounds. They think of a rebound like I think of a donut.” said Wentworth with a smile. The Bears will hit the road on Monday as they travel to Edwards Knox for a JV game only. Tip Off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
