Canton JV 48-23
On a cold breezy Saturday afternoon the Canton girls JV Basketball team hosted the General Brown Lions in Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium in a matinee event. The young Lions made the trip without some key players because of Covid protocols but still demonstrated toughness and determination.
With their typical defensive pressure and fast break style offense the Bears outscored them by the score of 48-23. Canton was led in scoring by Olivia White with 13 points and Vivian Coburn who drained four three pointers for twelve points. Tessa Alguire (8 points, 10 rebounds) and Winnie Downs (7 points, 8 rebounds) also filled up columns in the score books after returning to the team from the injured list.
“We have had players missing and a couple games that got rescheduled in the last week so I think the girls were just happy to play a game against someone with a different color uniform today,” Coach Mike Wentworth said. “It was nice to see Winnie, Tessa, Haley and Sara back on the court today after missing the Gouverneur game. It didn’t take long for them to get their game legs back under them and make an impact. I keep saying this, but these girls just out work and out hustle teams and that is why they have been so successful.”
The JV Bears scheduled game on Tuesday against Heuvelton has been postponed but will be made up at a later date. The Varsity team will still play. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
