January 15th was a typical cold North Country winter morning. Temperature outside was negative a lot with a bright sun and driving wind. The boys team was undaunted by the frigid temperatures as they schlepped to Indian River to face the Frontier League swim teams. (A huge thank you goes to the bus driver for heating up the bus for them!)
The seven teams at the invitational created some excellent competition for the 8 swimmers from CLP. Fielding a team of 4 seniors, 3 freshman and one 8th grader, the boys swam to a solid 5th place. The meet started well with the medley relay team of Mark Hollinger (9), Tevor Bates (12), Juan Pablo Corona Gomez (12), and Daniel Armendariz-Huang (9) taking 3rd place in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:59.58. Alex Baxter (12) followed the relay by taking second in the 200 free and Hollinger then showed his speed with a second place finish in the 200 IM.
The 200 free relay of Bates, Armendariz-Huang, Adam Sabatini (8), and Baxter swam a season best time of 1:45.30, taking 3rd place. Alex Baxter swam a life-time best 50 in 24.82 as the anchor leg on the relay. Hollinger then rounded out the podium finishes for the CLP squad with a 3rd place finish in the 100 back.
It was a great experience for the CLP squad as they look forward to the last four weeks of the season.
