The Canton Golden Bears JV volleyball team took the long bus ride to Tupper Lake on Thursday, October 14th.  This was the Bears first and only match against the Lumberjacks this season. Josie Gabriel had a stand out game leading the Bears to the win. 

In the first set the Bears got off to a slow start. The game went back and forth with Tupper leading most of the way. With Emma Logan’s strong serving the Bears fought back at the end for the 25-23 win. 

The second set consisted of many long rallys, and once again Tupper was leading most of the set. The Bears brought the game back into their control thanks to Josie Gabriel’s kills and serving. Canton won 25-23. 

The Bears had already won the match but looked to win all three sets. It was a close back and forth all the way through the third. Unfortunately the Bears could not pull out the win, losing by a score 23-25. 

Top performers for the Bears win were Josie Gabriel with 9 kills, 2 aces, and 6 total points served. Laurel Whittier had 5 assists, 2 aces, and a total of 7 service points. Katie Metcalf had 1 kill, 3 aces, and served up 10 points.  Emma Logan contributed 2 assists, 3 aces, and 3 service points.

BEARS TAME CATS!

Canton JV volleyball had a double header against Gouverneur on Friday night. The Bears had already faced the Wildcats in three matches this season. Winning all three the Bears looked to continue their streak and get two more wins against the Wildcats. 

The first set of the night was dominated by the Bears. The Bears first server of the night, Josie Gabriel, got them out to a good lead. Along with strong serving from Cecily Shipman and Emma Logan the Bears won 25-6. 

The second set was closer than the first, but still controlled by the Bears. They got the win 25-16 and secured the match win.

During the third set the Bears looked to continue their winning. The set was a close one, it was hard fought all the way through. The Bears fell just shy of the win, losing 22-25. 

Top performers of the game were Emma Logan with 2 kills, 2 assists, 7 aces, and served up 9 other points. Josie Gabriel had 3 kills, 3 aces, and 8 points served. Laurel Whittier contributed 2 kills, 1 assist, 2 aces, and 7 total service points. Cecily Shipman tossed in 4 aces, and 12 total points served. 

The second game then began with it being the fourth set of the night.   A few of the Bears players were feeling tired from the first game and cold coming off the bench. The Wildcats took control of the first set, and the Bears could not get back. Losing the first set 21-25. 

The Bears regrouped and began the second set with a winning mindset. The Bears strong serving and good serve receive helped lead them to the win, 25-14.

The third set began with both the Bears and the Wildcats still having a chance to win the game. That didn’t last long. The Bears took the game over, dominating the set and winning 25-6.

Leading stats in the game were Laurel Whittier with 5 kills, 5 assists, 2 aces, and served up 6 total points. Emma Logan had 5 kills, 2 assists, 1 ace, and 2 points served. Josie Gabriel contributed 2 kills, 6 aces, and a total of 13 service points. Zoey Mattie also had 1 kill, 7 aces, and 12 service points.
