The Canton Bears Varsity soccer team lost 3-0 to the Madrid-Waddington Yellow Jackets on Friday afternoon.

The Bears were missing key players but performed well despite adversity on and off the field. The Bears were without two starting defenders, and Cooper Ladouceur and Jack Kerrigan filled up the backfield nicely, aside from one uncontested shot that resulted in the first Yellow Jacket goal.

Goaltender Hayden Todd moved the ball downfield quickly off punts due to the short field. Going into halftime the Bears had a 1 goal deficit to overcome, but offensive plays were few and far between for the Bears who like to play with a kick and run style.

The Bears had a couple of free kicks, one by Ladouceur that was perfectly placed but not executed, and one by Scott Ahlfeld that rang off the crossbar and over the attacking Canton offense. The Bears allowed two goals that half making the final score 3-0.

The Bears play Tuesday away at Massena.
