Lady Bears Lacrosse Falls in Title game, Coburn earns MVP

On Thursday, the #2 Lady Bears started strong and held on with #1 Salmon River to a 7-4 halftime before falling to a 16-5 final. 

In the first half, the Lady Bears were able to hold Salmon River to a 1 goal lead in the first 8 minutes- something no team has previously done this season. The Shamrocks and Bears traded goals until and with eleven minutes left of the game, Salmon had a 5 goal lead. Salmon then went on a 6 goal scoring run to seal the their fate at a second Section X Title. 

Lady Bears had goals from Etta Coburn (2g,1a), Haley Stevenson (2g) and Hannah Reed (1g). Goalkeeper Sarah Rodee had a season high 16 saves. With the loss, the Lady Bears fall to 13-3 in the league, 13-4 overall  and finish at 2nd place in the league. Coburn continued her point streak to 121 points, surpassing 200 points in her career. 

“It’s certainly not the result we wanted or worked for but Coach Holz and I are so proud of this team and how hard they’ve worked. We’ve seen such growth in our girls, both individually and as a team, which for us is so much more important then the wins and losses. For not having a season last year, I couldn’t be more proud.” Stated Head Coach Murphy Newman. 

All Northern Awards were presented post-game.
