Canton 22  Salmon River 1

The Canton Golden Bears Varsity Softball team hosted the Salmon River Shamrocks in the Class “B” Semifinals on Wednesday night at Ike Noble Field.    Winning pitcher Hadley Alguire stroked five hits and knocked in six runs in guiding the top-seeded Golden Bears past (#5) Salmon River.  Canton’s 14-run third inning doomed the Shamrocks. Lexi Huiatt contributed four hits, while Cate DeCoteau and Lucy DeCoteau ripped three hits each.  Ava Hoy also contributed two hits and threw two scoreless innings in relief for the Bears.  Jacobi Mitchell stroked two hits for Salmon River that closed its season at 1-15 overall.

“As a team we hit the ball very well today. This group of girls has worked very hard and put a lot of time in to get to this point.  It is nice to see them have the success that they have had.  Gouveneur will be a big test for us on Friday.  They are coming off a big win against OFA and they swing the bats.  They have steadily improved throughout the season so it should be a fun game.  I hope a lot of people get a chance to come out and watch.”

Next up, the Bears will face the Gouverneur Wildcats in the Class “B” Championship game on Friday at Ike Noble Field.  The Cats upset the OFA Blue Devils 9-7 on Wednesday to advance.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:00.  Section X Awards will be presented following the game.
