Lady Bears Lacrosse Wrap up Regular Season

Varsity girls lacrosse (10-2, 10-3 overall) currently sit in second place in the league and look to wrap up the regular season this week. The Bears host Heuvelton on Monday at 4:30 p.m. which will include a senior ceremony and travel down Route 11 to Potsdam for a Thursday afternoon regular season finale at 5 p.m. Heuvelton and Potsdam currently sit at seventh and fourth place, respectively. 

The Bears are coming off some great team wins against Massena and Lake Placid by ten goals each game. Juniors Haley Stevenson and Camryn Sipher and sophomores Megan Martin and Etta Coburn have all provided multiple goals in both games. Hannah Reed, Vivian Coburn, Amelia Rodee also aided with single goal games. Junior Sarah Rodee has a combined 23 saves in each of the wins. 

The Bears saw their second league loss on Friday to first place Salmon River by just two goals. Salmon was able to get to as much as a five goal lead, twice, before Canton would go on some scoring runs and close the gap. Sophomore Etta Coburn was involved in nine of Canton’s 12 goals, with five goals and four helpers. Goalkeeper Sarah Rodee had 14 stops against Salmon.

Sunday in Lake Placid, Etta Coburn joined the century club, garnering 100+ points on the season through 57 goals, 45 assists.

“What an amazing accomplishment for Etta. We’re all so excited for her. She has such a tremendous work ethic. I’m continuously impressed with her. Of course we’ll miss her passion and drive next year but know she will continue to make us proud,” stated assistant coach Rachel Holz of Coburn.
