The Bears started their week out with a solid win over the OFA Blue Devils Monday night, giving them their fourth straight win in league play.
“Monday games are always a bit dicey coming off of a weekend with no practice the day before, but after a questionable start we were able to pull it together for a good outcome,” Assistant Coach Rachel Holz said.
The Blue Devils won the first draw control and had the first shot on net for the game. Junior goalie Sarah Rodee came up with the save and had a solid first clear down the field to regain possession. The Bears quickly regrouped and took the lead with three quick goals. By the end of the first half, the Bears had a 10-0 lead. Sarah Rodee came up with eight great saves in net, giving herself the first half shutout.
In the first half Hannah Reed (two assists) and Etta Coburn (five assists) both had two goals while Vivian Coburn (four assists), Haley Stevenson, Lindsay Filiatrault (one assist), Megan Martin, Wyatt Newman, and Amelia Rodee (one assist) all added one goal each.
“Nothing excites me more than when I see Amelia come up with a great caused turnover on defense and run the ball end to end, resulting in a goal which she does at least once a game. She just can’t be stopped,” stated Head Coach Murphy Newman.
The Bears went out the second half and netted six more goals – two from Haley Stevenson and one each from Madie Brandy, Etta Coburn, Hannah Reed, and Megan Martin. OFA was able to put away three goals in the second half while Sarah Rodee stopped four additional shots. Canton midfielders came out strong off the draw all day, winning 14 of the 19 draws.
The Lady Bears are back in action Thursday at 6 p.m. as they travel to Massena to face the Red Raiders.
