Pitchers Emily Wentworth and Hadley Alguire along with solid defense continue to string zeroes while Canton continued to string hits at the plate in an 11-0 win over Gouverneur in NAC Central Division Softball action on Monday. Wentworth struck out 10 and allowed just one one in five innings and Alguire spun two hitless innings closing out the shutout for the undefeated Bears. Catcher Cate DeCoteau has been stellar behind the plate for the Bears!

Wentworth went 4-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs, Cate DeCoteau went 2-4 with a triple, Alguire doubled and drove in two runs and Natalie Warner and Hadleigh Thornton added two hits apiece. Lexis Huiatt, Sydnee Francis and Megan Davis all stroked one hit apiece to round out the well rounded offensive effort. Gouverneur received its only hit from Ellen Baer in the top of the sixth inning.

“Our pitchers and defense has been very good the last two games. We continue to be aggressive on the bases which sometimes cost us but we like to keep things moving.” The Bears will face off with the Central leading Malone Huskies on Tuesday at Ike Nobel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.

Canton’s bats pick up in game two versus Gouverneur scoring 13 runs in 5 innings!

Courntney Peters pitched game one and struck out 9 and gave up 5 hits.  Olivia Sero, Abby Woodrow, Courtney Peters all had hits in the game.  Ava Hoy pitched game two and struck out 10 and only allowed one hit.  Lucy DeCoteau, Kyleigh Gollinger, Katie Metcalf all had two hits apiece.  DeCoteau had a 2 run triple and Metcalf had an RBI double.

Tessa Alguire pitched and struck out 17 batters and only allowed one hit. Alguire also stroked two doubles and a triple at the plate.  Cecily Shipman and Salma Moumen each smacked 3 hits apiece. The amount of energy and enthusiasm displayed by the Tori Thomas Coached team was outstanding! The girls are really beginning to show their stride!
