Sean Shannon, son of Shannon and Shannon (formerly Shannon Zehr), Kevin Shannon and brother of Katie Shannon recently committed to run Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field at RPI. Sean is a merger student from Madrid-Waddington who ran cross country and indoor track for Canton since the 9th grade and has run outdoor track for MW since the 7th grade. Sean has had an amazing career competing for these two schools. He competed at the NYS Cross Country meet twice and the Indoor State meet once. He helped his XC team win back to back Section X titles and led his 4×800 relay team to win the Section X title in 2020, breaking a decade long drought. In addition to this, he was also the runner up in the 600 at the 2020 Section X meet earning him a place at the State Meet where he achieved a massive PR and was only several seconds off the school record.

Unfortunately just as Sean’s career as a junior was taking off the Covid-19 pandemic struck and cut his season short, cancelling his 2020 outdoor season and his indoor 2020-21 season. Thankfully the solid times Sean set during the 2019-2020 season set him up to continue his running career in college. Despite the loss of several seasons this has not deterred Sean he has continued to train hard since the start of the pandemic both on his own and with a small group. As a result he is in the best shape yet and is ready to tackle the 2021 outdoor track and field season.
In addition to committing to the track and field team he also intends to major in Architecture at RPI.
