Play Ball! It has been over a year since anyone has heard that phrase in Section X. The Canton Golden Bears Softball teams had their seasons canceled last year because of the pandemic. This past week they finally got a chance to brush off their cleats and wipe away the cobwebs from their gloves to hit the diamond for the start of the 2021 season.

After a year without Softball who knows what it will look like. The thing we do know about the Golden Bears Varsity Softball team is that they will continue a strong tradition of good pitching. That along with a veteran group of players including six seniors will make them very competitive in the central. “We should be strong in the circle and have great senior leadership. We will have to replace some key players that have moved on but we have some girls that have put a lot of time and effort into making themselves better. I think we have the potential to be fun to watch this spring.” stated head coach Mike Wentworth who will be assisted by his daughter Kacie Brabaw. The Bears graduated two key players in Bella Jaskowski and Bailee Bessette who is now playing at SUNY Canton.

Team members include, Seniors: Emily Wentworth (P/1B), Lexis Huiatt (SS), Brooke Larrabee (3B/1B), Hadleigh Thornton (1B/3B/OF), Natalie Warner (OF/1B/3B), Megan Davis(OF/2B/C) Juniors: Cate DeCoteau (C, INF), Alyssa Jacob (OF/3B), Brianna Rogers(OF), Hailey Jordan(OF) Sophomores: Hadley Alguire (P/1B/OF), Sydnee Francis (2B/SS/C). Coaching the JV team this year will be Carla Wentworth and taking over the reigns at the Modified level will be Tori Thomas. The Bears are scheduled to open up with a double header against Class D power Hammond Red Devils at home on Tuesday, April 27th. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
