Varsity Volleyball Sweeps Stoners

Canton volleyball opened their season on the road against Potsdam and posted a 3-0 victory.  With a shortened season of only two games the Bears came out fired up and ready to play hard for each point.  Each set was close but the Bears were able to outlast the Sandstoners to secure the win 25-17, 25-23, 25-22.

Because of the altered seasons many new players have joined the team making for a tough lineup.  Returning starter Katie Bennent led the squad with 10 service points, nine kills and 3 blocks.  The Hoy sisters; Ava and newcomer Maddie Hoy were a force at the net with Ava posting 9 kills and sister Maddie adding 4 in her debut volleyball outing.  Mattigan Porter also a returning player added 17 assists and 7 points and 3 aces.  The Bears also received solid performances from Juniors Jade Stevenson, Riley Taylor and Alyssa Jacob.  Team members include Seniors; Merideth Jones, Megan Davis, Leah Foote, Harley Hanson, Tawnie Mustain and Hannah Pike.  Juniors-Maddy Bascom, Katie Bennent, Maddie Hoy, Alyssa Jacob, Mattigan Porter, Julianna Richardson, Amelia Rodee, Jade Stevenson and Riley Taylor.  Ava Hoy is the lone underclassman as a Freshman.
