On Saturday we got the first look at the 2020 Golden Bears Boys JV Soccer team. The boys were excited to hit the road to Malone after a six month layoff from any organized sports.
The first 15 minutes of the game was very sloppy by both teams.
“I was expecting this because of the long layoff,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “We proved that playing video games does not keep you in shape.”
After the young Bears shook the rust off they started to spread the field out and showed their true style. Josh “Cub” Aldous broke the ice at the 23 minute mark in the first half by scoring off a pass from Bradley Frank.
The Bears scored again late in the second half when Nate “Romo” Romano scored on a penalty shot to make the final score 2-0.
“After three weeks of practice it was nice to see a team with a different color jersey,” Wentworth said. “With only a six game schedule we need to work hard and keep improving because before you know it the season is going to be over.”
The Bears next game is scheduled for Wednesday at home on Roger Dusharm field vs Massena. Game Time 4 p.m.
The Bears Soccer program in general had a good day Saturday on the field. The Boys Varsity beat up on Malone by a score of 4-1. The Girls Varsity topped Franklin Academy by a score of 1-0 with Sydnee Francis soring the game winner. The JV Girls beat OFA 1-0 on a Hadley Alguire goal.
