The Canton modified girls started off their season with two strong wins over Madrid-Waddington and Potsdam on Oct. 15 and 19 respectively. Both games ended 5-0 and showed the talent, athleticism, teamwork, unity, and sportsmanship in this young team. Gracen Parker had two goals and an assist against M-W as she dominated in front of the net. Viv Coburn supported the offense and defense as she held the center field strong, assisting one of Parker’s goals and kept the ball at the Bear’s end for multiple opportunities. Other goals were scored by the three Olivia’s… Sommerstein, White, and Francey. Striker Sara Aldous had two assists.
The Bears played with stamina despite the cold, wet conditions on the Potsdam field in Monday’s match. Kailin Backus scored in the first two minutes of game play then later put a hard shot in the corner of the net well outside the box on a direct kick. Olivia White and Olivia Francey each had a successful shot and Calie Klassen used her high speed on a breakaway run to put the bears at 5-0.
In both games the defense was lead by sweeper Winnie Downs and well supported by Elaina Robert, Abby Nee, and Ella Mousaw. This is a well rounded team with a deep bench. They are a team to watch as their strength, solidarity and confidence is already showing their potential.
