The Canton girls JV basketball team hit the road again and traveled to Adams on Wednesday night to face the north country powerhouse South Jeff Spartens in a non league matchup. The young Bears were trying to get back into the win column after a tough loss to Gouverneur last Thursday.
The Bear Cubs got off the bus ready to go and exploded for a 17-2 first quarter lead and never looked back, earning a 49-36 win. Canton was led in scoring by eighth grader Ava Hoy and sophomore Amelia Rodee who put up 20 and 12 points on the night. Also tickling the twine for the Bears were Lindsey Filiatrault (six points), Hadley Alguire (four points), Mattie Porter (three points), Courtney Peters and Kayla Larrabee (two points).
“The girls got off the bus on fire and had a great first quarter. Ava and Amelia are tough to stop when they go to the hoop like that,” noted Coach Mike Wentworth.
Canton will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Potsdam for a Central League matchup. Game time 5:30 p.m.
