Carthage tops Canton in varsity boys non-league rematch

Carthage downed Canton 68-58 in a NAC-Frontier league matchup. It was another good game between the Comets and Bears, coming down to the fourth quarter once again.

After coming out slow offensively, Canton held up on the defensive end keeping the game close. Despite the struggle Canton was able to claw their way to a one-point deficit at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter remained close, but the Bears started to get into foul trouble. The Comets took a seven-point lead into half.

Carthage came out on fire from behind the arc in the third quarter extending their lead to as much as 19 before Chris Downs hit a clutch three as time expired.

As the fourth quarter got underway both teams traded baskets until the halfway mark when Canton began to chip away at the lead. Canton was able to get it as close as eight points.

Carthage’s Elijah Whitefield lead all scorers with 30 points
