Girls Basketball With a Win Over Potsdam

The varsity girls basketball team recorded their first league win of the year, a 65-31 victory over rival Potsdam. The team was coming off of their best performance of the season and was excited to get back to playing on their home court. The first quarter showed this excitement as the team came out hot and scored 28 points while holding their rivals to only seven.

The second quarter was a different story. The team felt this wasn’t their best perform as Potsdam was able to outscore the Golden Bears 13-7. At the half Canton had the lead 35-20. The team was back to themselves in the second half: they ran the floor, hit the open girl, rebounded, and played strong defense. In the end, Canton was happy with the win however, they hope to improve defense and put together four quarters at their top level of performance.

Scoring for the bears, Sarah Sieminski had 15 points and Katie Chisholm had 12. Just behind Chisholm was Maddie Hoy, who added 11 and Jillian DiSalvo scored 8 points.

Thursday the bears travel to Ogdensburg to play at 7 p.m. This is a big league match-up for the Golden Bears as they hope to continue undefeated in league play. OFA is coming off of a loss to Malone last week and are ready to get revenge. The Bears are excited for this battle and look to prepare in upcoming practices before the game. Go Bears!
