The Canton Central girl’s modified basketball team took on Potsdam Central Monday night at home. The 8th grade team stayed unbeaten as they doubled up the Sandstoners 32-16, while the 7th grade team lost a hard-fought 16-12 battle.
In the 8th grade game, the Bears jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Josie Gabriel scored eight of her team-high 20 points in that opening stanza. Gabriel added 18 rebounds and four steals. Laurel Whittier and Stella Shipman each played a well rounded game. Whittier had six points, five steals, two rebounds, and two assists. Shipman contributed four points seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Ava Ames grabbed five rebounds, and Maysa Moumen chipped in with two points.
Sara Aldous led the seventh graders with six points. Winnie Downs added four, and Vivian Coburn had two.
