Thursday night the Canton JV girls Basketball team took on the Franklin Academy Huskies at Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium and came away with a 45-32 victory, evening up their record at 1-1 on the season.
The teams played to a 12-12 tie at the end of the first quarter but the junior Bears came out of hibernation and exploded in the second quarter making the halftime score 26-16.
“We played better today and I am hoping for a steady improvement every game. We still need to do a better job taking care of the basketball and cutting down our turnovers. Camryn Sipher did a nice job today leading our offense and getting people the ball in good scoring positions,” said Coach Mike Wentworth.
Leading scorers for the Bears were Ava Hoy 17 points 10 rebounds and Amelia Rodee 15 points and 12 boards. Rounding out the scoring on the night were Mattigan Porter with six points two rebounds and Lindsey Filiatrault seven points. Filiatrault broke out of her shell tonight with her best game of the season.
The Bears are in action again on Saturday night against Saranac Central. Game time is 6 p.m. at SUNY Canton’s Roo House.
