The Canton girl’s modified volleyball team won their fourth in a row defeating the Gouverneur Wildcats 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 26-24)
The Wildcats opened the first set with 2 points before Laurel Whittier had a kill to take possession. Katie Metcalf then served for 4 points, including 2 aces. Strong serving from Whittier and Autumn Bronson brought the Bears lead up to 13-5. After serving errors from both teams, Emma Logan had a nice dig to get the serve back. Whittier had a kill followed by serving an ace to bring the lead to 18-13. Kyleigh Gollinger served 2 points and then Bronson had a nice point before she served out the first set with 3 points for the win 25-15.
Metcalf opened the second set by serving 7 straight points for the Bears including 3 aces. Strong serving from Bronson and Whittier brought the Bears lead to 11-7 before Josie Gabriel served for 10 points to bring the Bears lead to 21-7. The Wildcats rallied for 5 points closing the gap to 21-13 before Gollinger served 3 points for the win, 25-13.
Canton played everyone in the third. The Wildcats opened strong with an ace. Lilly Borelli then served 5 points (1 ace) to bring the Bears lead to 6-1. Logan and Vanessa Mousaw contributed to the serving, but the Wildcats battled back to within 2 at 13-11. Maura Onyper served 2 aces to bring the Bears lead to 15-12. Gouverneur quickly tied the score at 15 all and continued with strong serving to take the lead 21-16. The Bears battled back with points served from Bronson and Alexa Romano to bring the score to within one (21-20 Wildcats). Strong serving again helped Gouverneur take the lead up to 24-21 before Gabriel took over serving for the Bears (5 points, 3 aces) and the win 26-24.
The Bears play at home this Tuesday at 5 p.m. vs. Potsdam.
