
The Canton A team offense started the game hot as Mak Brassard burst down the sideline for a 61 yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage! Laden Nolan kicked the extra point, putting the Bears up 8-0.
The Bears defense followed with an assertive series, as Brassard, Zayden Martin, and Tannyn Rose all recorded tackles before Landyn Clifford made a big play intercepted a pass, giving the Bears offense the ball back.
Gavin Brown carried the ball 32 yards on a toss to the sideline, followed by a 13 yard rush from Connor Hicks. Clifford and Hicks then rushed for a combined 12 yards before an interception on a bobbled catch in the end zone gave the Huskies the ball back.
The Bears responded on the very next play as Brassard read the quarterback and intercepted a pass off the edge rush, returning it five yards for a touchdown. Laden Nolan added the extra point, making it 16-0 Bears.
James Brunet blew up the Huskies’ next play with a tackle for loss, and on the following play, Brunet and Ben Bristol combined for a team tackle. After an incompletion, Malone punted, giving the Bears another opportunity to extend their lead.
Quarterbacks Mak Brassard threw a dart to running back Landyn Clifford for 34 yards before finishing the drive with a 26 yard rushing touchdown on a quarterback scramble, extending the Canton lead to 22-0. Zayden Martin added a tackle before the quarter expired.
The Bears’ B unit defense came out ready to play as Miles Coakley made a tackle and picked up another with help from Nolan Archer on the following play.
After getting the ball back, Ryder Peets connected with Landon Huntley for a 12 yard pass. Ben Bristol rushed for seven yards, and Nolan Archer picked up another 12 yards on the ground. Peets found Huntley again for eight yards before Bristol carried the Huskies’ defense on his back, breaking tackle after tackle for an 11 yard touchdown! Laden Nolan added the extra point, putting the Bears up 30-0.
Ellie Murdock made a textbook sideline tackle for a loss, pushing the Huskies back five yards. After being plagued by incompletions, Malone punted, giving the Bears the ball once again.
Huntley rushed for 10 yards, followed by a 15 yard run from Bristol. Bristol then powered through for a tough five yard touchdown, reaching over the goal line for his second score. Laden Nolan added the extra point, making it 38-0 Bears.
Malone responded with a 65 yard touchdown run. After a missed extra point, Archer fumbled the football, giving the Huskies possession once again.
Murdock, Archer, Trenton Yerden, and Jaxon Shippee all recorded tackles of their own. Malone then found a hole and punched in a five yard touchdown, followed by a successful extra point. The Bears head into the half leading 38-14.
An additional 10 play “C team” period took place during halftime, with the Bears starting on defense. Ridge Holmes and Hudson Quicke recorded tackles. Jerimiah Wilson came in hot with a solo tackle for loss, followed by another tackle for loss with help from Trenton Yerden on the next play. Huntley, Jackson Bullock, and Blaze Harris worked together to make a tackle, while Harris added a solo tackle and another with help from Bullock.
Martin rushed for 31 yards, followed by a 16 yard run from Huntley. Martin then found the end zone with a bruising eight yard touchdown run. Bristol hauled in a 40 yard pass from Peets before adding a five yard rush. Peets followed things up on another drive with a 20 yard rushing touchdown of his own! Huntley rushed for 11 yards, and Archer added a seven yard run before the halftime period ended.
The Bears’ A team defense started the second half with a bang as Connor Hicks returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown on the first play! Canton extended its lead to 44-14.
Brassard made a tackle before combining with Connor Hicks for a sack. After a Huskies punt and a team effort getting into the red area, Brassard rushed for a 20 yard touchdown! A missed extra point made the score 50-14 Bears.
James Brunet and Gavin Brown recorded tackles, while Brunet and Clifford teamed up for another stop, keeping the pressure on Malone. Brassard then sacked the quarterback, forcing a fumble that was recovered by the Huskies. Brown and Clifford combined for a tackle, forcing a turnover on downs.
With three seconds left in the third quarter, Brassard found Landyn Clifford open in the seam for a 48 yard passing touchdown! A quarterback sneak on the one point conversion put the Bears up 57-14.
In the fourth quarter, the defense continued its strong play with tackles from Ryder Peets and Hudson Quicke before Ridge Holmes recorded a sack.
Martin caught a 14 yard pass from Peets, and Bristol rushed for seven yards before Martin broke three tackles on a bruising 16 yard run! Peets then found Archer open for a 20 yard passing touchdown, and Xzavier Coffey added the extra point to put the Bears up 65-14.
Holmes and Jackson Guzman recorded tackles before the clock ran out, sealing the Bears victory.
Canton looks to continue its unbeaten season against Potsdam on October 8 at 5:30 p.m.
