Big “Mak” Moment Saves Day For Canton Over Massena

Makayla “Mak” Hogan(12) Makes a Game Saving Diving Catch

Canton 9  Massena 5

Canton traveled to Massena on Thursday afternoon to play the Class A Massena Raiders in a Central League Softball Game.  This was the second game of the season for the pair, with Canton winning the first game 19-4. On Thursday it was a different story with the Bears having to claw their way to a 9-5 win.  The Raiders seemed to have runners in scoring position every inning and made Canton grind it out for the win.  If you like action, this game had it all.  Todays game showcased  plays at the plate, outfield relays, big hits and great pitching but it was a play in leftfield that will stand out to most.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, bases loaded,  Makayla “Mak” Hogan ran in and made a diving catch on a sinking liner in left field that eliminated a big inning for the Raiders.

Emma Bradish-Hayes (17)

“Mak’s catch in the sixth inning is one of the best catches I have seen in a long time.  Just to hang on to the ball after she landed was tough. That was a huge moment in the game.  I was so excited, I think I hit my head on top of the dugout.” from Coach Mike Wentworth

Offensively, Elle White continued her hot streak going 3-4 with an RBI.  Elise Harris connected for two hits and a double while Jenna Larrabee also smoked an RBI double in the first inning to help the Bears get on the board and get things rolling.

White pitched the complete game from the circle, striking out eight and allowing seven hits.

“That is the second game we have had to grind out this week.  We are not sneaking up on any teams anymore.  The second time around, everyone is bringing their “A” game against us.   We just need to keep concentrating on doing thigs the right way and stepping up when we need to.  Along with Mak’s catch in the sixth, we made two great relays from the outfield today.  I love to see the little stuff like that.  Just shows that the girls are really starting to get it.”  From Coach Wentworth

Harper Elvy (16)
