Canton Bears Track and Field Wraps Up Season

The Canton varsity track and field team had a strong finish to their season, competing in Sectionals and State Qualifiers this February. At Sectionals on February 6th, despite many athletes being sick, the team pushed through with almost all athletes achieving new personal records.

In the girls 600 meter run, Aurora Casserly placed ninth with a time of 1:58.46. Daphne LaPierre was right behind, running a 1:58.70.

In the girls 1000 meter run, Natasha Rossiter placed fifth with a time of 3:30.

In the girls 1500 meters, Niccole Sabatini placed tenth with a time of 5:51.

Parker Gallagher placed seventh in the girls 60 meter hurdles, running 11.00 seconds. Alexa Fay placed ninth with a time of 11.45 seconds.

The girls 4×800 team, consisting of Elena Abplanalp, Hannah Ames, Aurora Casserly, and Lucy Rose, placed second with a total time of 10:42.

Isabella Perretta placed fifth in the triple jump, jumping 29 ft. 9.5 in.

Placing fourth in the girls shot put was Harper Terrell, throwing 27 ft.

On the boys side, Dayshawn James placed second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.35 seconds. He also placed second in the boys 300 with a time of 36.96 seconds.

In the boys 600, Duncan Harper placed sixth with a time of 1:33.

In the boys 3200, Zachary Lyndaker placed fourth with a time of 10:55. Cedric Harper placed sixth, running a 11:06.

In the boys high jump, Adam Sabatini placed sixth with a jump of 5 ft. 2 in.

In boys long jump, Tegan Cortwright placed tenth, jumping 17 ft. 2 in.

In the boys weight throw, Adam Sabatini placed first with a throw of 41 ft. 8 in, becoming the Section X champion.

On February 11th, select athletes from the team competed in State Qualifiers.

Dayshawn James qualified in the boys 60 meter dash and the 300 meter dash.

The boys 4×400 team, consisting of Duncan Harper, Crosby Terrell, Justin Towle, and Dayshawn James, also qualified with a 3:41 second place finish. Many of the athletes will soon begin to train for a Spring sport. Many thanks to the coaches for a great season!
