On Saturday, January 24th, the Canton varsity track and field team hosted the Section X Invitational. In addition to the typical attendees of the late-night meets, multiple teams from out of the section competed. Among these teams were Saranac, Beekmantown, Camden, Ticonderoga, Peru and Plattsburgh.
Many of Canton’s athletes broke personal records and demonstrated their increasing skills before Sectionals and the state qualifier meet.
Lena Frank placed ninth in the girls 3000 meter run with a time of 12:06, breaking her personal record by over a minute.
Freshman Parker Gallagher placed ninth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.92 seconds.
The girls 4×400 team, consisting of Natasha Rossiter, Elena Abplanalp, Hannah Ames, and Lucy Rose placed fourth. They broke their seed time by 3 seconds.
Isabella Perretta placed sixth in the girls long jump with a distance of 29 ft. 5 in.
On the boys side, Dayshawn James placed second in the 300 meter dash with a time of 38.04 seconds.
Duncan Harper placed ninth in the 600, running the race in 1:32.
Zachary Lyndaker took first in the 3200 meters and had a PR of 23 seconds. He ran a 10:24.
In the boys 60 meter hurdles, Tegan Cortwright placed ninth with a time 10.76 seconds.
The team competes again on January 30th and looks forward to competing in Sectionals on February 6th.
