Canton 76, Gouverneur 40
The first quarter was potentially the best offensive quarter the Bears have played all season, scoring 26 on the back of an unlikely source, as Owen Matthews hit his first two threes of the season with the second unit, along with efficient shooting all around, shooting 10/14 from the field, including 4-7 from three. Gouverneur was hitting some difficult shots and the first quarter ended 26-10 in favor of the Bears.
The second quarter didn’t go quite as well, as the Bears put up 16 to another 10 point quarter for the Wildcats. They shot 1/9 from 3 to end the half 5/16 from long distance. The Bears have been very efficient from two, shooting 47%, but the three point volume has been high compared to years past. About 40% of the Bears field goal attempts have been 3s and they’ve shot a not so good 27% on the season.
The third quarter did not start well. 5 missed shots and 4 turnovers opened the quarter as the offense went cold. Luckily the defense stood strong and Gouverneur only scored two points in that span and the second unit stepped up to score 12 in 5 minutes to end the quarter, as Parker Ames and Parker Hurlbut dominated the paint for the rest of the game.
The fourth quarter had quite possibly the best moment of the Bears’ season thus faras after the game got out of hand, the reserves came in, and Michael Butler scored a difficult drive bucket, his first of the season, and he and Ames were co players of the game after the Bears’ third straight win.
Zadok Roiger’s ended the game with 16 points, 11 rebound and 5 assists on yet another efficient game, shooting 60% from the field. The breakout star of the game was Owen Matthews off the bench with 18 points 7 rebounds and 2 steals shooting 4/6 from three. Parker Ames was another breakout guy scoring 12 points, and Ciaran O’Brien and Will Andes each had 8. The Bears took an astounding 25 extra shots than the wildcats, shooting. The Bears had a 57.79% true shooting percentage to the Wildcats 41.08%. The Bears face a 4 game road schedule next week starting in Malone on Tuesday.
