Canton Golden Bears Football Set to Host First Section X Championship Since 2018

For the first time since 2018, the Canton Golden Bears football team will host the Class A Section X Championship on their home field. The Bears will take on the St. Lawrence Central Larries this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on John Oliver Football Field in Canton.

After several years of rebuilding and steady progress, the Golden Bears have once again risen to the top of Section X football, earning the right to compete for a title in front of their hometown fans. The program’s resurgence has been fueled by a strong sense of pride, commitment, and the unwavering support of the Canton community.

Head Coach Rico Dobbs credited his players and coaching staff for the team’s success this season.

“This group has really bought into the process,” Dobbs said. “They’ve shown up every day ready to work, and they’ve trusted one another from day one. Hosting a Section 10 Championship is something special, and doing it here at home in front of our fans makes it even better.”

Dobbs also took time to recognize the efforts of his dedicated coaching staff, who have each played a vital role in the team’s success.

“I can’t say enough about my assistants,” Dobbs added. “Our offensive coordinator, Jake Fenlong has done a tremendous job designing game plans that put our players in the best position to succeed. Frank Bush, our lineman specialist, has been the heart of our physical identity up front. Alex Bush, who leads our special teams unit, has kept us sharp and disciplined in every phase of the game, and Chad Kenna has been an incredible all-around coach and motivator for our players. I’m extremely lucky to work with such a talented and committed staff.”

Dobbs also extended his appreciation to Courtney Bush, the program’s Director of Player Operations, for her continued support and behind-the-scenes contributions that help keep the program running smoothly.

“Courtney plays a huge role in what we do,” Dobbs said. “Her organization, communication, and commitment to our players and staff make a big difference every single week.”

The Bears have been powered by standout performances all season long. Running back Hayden Towle has been a consistent force on the ground, known for his vision and toughness. Quarterback Landon Perry has led the offense with confidence, while defensive leader Ryan Faunce continues to anchor a unit known for its physicality and relentless effort.

Assistant coaches praised the team’s chemistry and focus, noting that this group has embraced the values of teamwork, discipline, and accountability — the core of what it means to be a Golden Bear.

The Canton community is buzzing with excitement ahead of Saturday’s matchup, with fans encouraged to wear brown and gold and fill the stands to create a true home-field advantage.

“It’s going to be an incredible atmosphere,” Dobbs said. “Our players have earned this moment, and we’re grateful to everyone — families, fans, and supporters — who have stood behind Canton football. This is a proud moment for all of us.”

As the Bears prepare to take the field against St. Lawrence Central, they do so with pride — carrying on the tradition, toughness, and unity that define Canton football.
