Varsity XC reaches halfway point in season

The Canton varsity cross country team is gearing up to enter the midpoint of the season. The young team is making notable improvements, despite encountering sickness and injuries early in the season.

On Tuesday, September 30th, the athletes traveled to Brushton-Moira Central School for a meet against Tupper Lake and Brushton.

The girls were unable to score due to a lack of runners, but ran well overall. JessieJean Coffin placed third with a time of 23:42. Ashlan Foster ran the race in 27:36. Addison Ragan finished in 28:06. Elizabeth Metcalf had a time of 29:30.

On the boys side, Zachary Lyndaker placed second with a time of 18:26. Cedric Harper was right behind with a time of 18:28. Duncan Harper ran the race in 18:37. Carson White finished in 20:03. Elijah Williams ran the race in 21:18.

A week later, on October 7th, Canton hosted a meet against Massena, Tupper Lake, and Salmon River. Stormy conditions cleared just prior to race time.

In the girls race, Lena Frank placed second with a time of 23:41. JessieJean Coffin ran the race in 23:59. Addison Ragan completed the course in 26:42. Ashlan Foster finished in 28:54. Elizabeth Metcalf ran a 29:25.

Zachary Lyndaker was Canton’s top boy finisher, placing fifth with a time of 18:40. Cedric Harper ran the race in 18:45. Carson White finished in 21:01. Elijah Williams was right behind with a time of 21:02. Duncan Harper ran the race in 22:27.

The next meet will take place at Tupper Lake on October 14th. The athletes are excited to continue to progress at this league meet, while also getting a feel for this year’s Sectionals course.
