On Jan. 10th, the Canton varsity track team competed in their first meet after returning from winter break. The team is pleased with their results from the exciting meet.
“Tonight the whole team has done really well. Everyone pushed themselves to do their best,” said Avery Thacker, a freshman.
To kick off the meet in an impressive fashion, the girls 4×800 team placed first. Salma Moumen, Lena Frank, Elena Abplanalp, and Aurora Casserly completed the relay in 10:54.
Top runners in the girls 60 meters included Aida Baker, Shaylee Olmsteadk, and Lucy Rose, who recently moved up from modified to varsity.
Top runners in the boys 60 meters were Tegan Cortwright, Hayden Towle, and Placid Shipman.
In the girls 60 meter hurdles, Isabella Perratta placed seventh with a time of 11.85. Alexa Fay placed 11th with a time of 11.98.
Kaden Worthley took third in the boys 1600 meters with a time of 4:58. Lucas Watts placed fifth, running a 5:05.
In the girls 600, Elena Abplanalp placed third with a time of 1:52. Lena Frank placed seventh, running a 1:53. Hannah Ames finished eighth with a time of 1:59.
“It was stressful but successful, with lots of personal records,” Abplanalp said in regards to the meet.
Noah Gendebein placed second in the boys 600 meters with a time of 1:30. Aidan Rodriguez-Doyle placed fourth, running a 1:33. Duncan Harper placed 11th with a time of 1:41.
In the girls 300 meters, Zara Cordwell placed 11th with a time of 49.45. Lucy Rose placed 12th with a time of 49.65.
In the boys 300, Crosby Terrell placed seventh with a time of 42.80 seconds.
“Even if you don’t think you can do it, if you have enough grit and determination you can catch them,” said Terrell after his two-second PR in the race.
In the girls 1000, Lena Frank placed seventh with a time of 3:53. Violet Foster placed eighth with a time of 3:58.
In the boys 1000, Noah Gendebein took first with a time of 2:55.06. Aiden Rodriguez-Doyle placed second with a time of 2:55.73. Kaden Worthley placed third with a time of 2:57.45.
In the boys 3200 meters, Rylan Lee-Powell placed first with a time of 10:24.
The Canton’s girls 4×400 team placed fourth with a time of 5:04. The team consisted of Aurora Casserly, Zara Cordwell, Hannah Ames, and Elena Abplanalp.
The boys 4×400 consisting of Duncan Harper, Aidan Rodriguez-Doyle, Rylan Lee-Powell, and Noah Gendebein placed first with a time of 3:53.
“The days you feel the worst turn out to be days of best performance,” senior Rodriguez-Doyle stated.
Hayden Towle placed seventh in boys long jump with a distance of 17 ft.
In girls triple jump, Isabella Perratta placed seventh, jumping a distance of 27 ft. 7 in.
In the boys shot put, William Moots placed eighth with a throw of 33 ft. 9 in.
In girls high jump, Zara Cordwell placed fourth with a height of 4 ft. 6 in.
Caleb Wilknson placed first in boys high jump with a height of 5 ft. 8 in.
In the girls weight throw, Harper Terrell placed fifth with a distance of 17 ft. 3 in.
In boys weight throw, William Moots placed fourth with a throw of 28 ft. 10 in.
The Canton boys placed third overall and the girls placed sixth. The next meet will take place on Jan. 17th at the St. Lawrence Newell Field House.
