On Tuesday, Oct. 8, the Canton Golden Bears Boys Varsity Soccer team traveled to Massena to take on the Raiders. The game ended in a 1-1 tie due to weather conditions in overtime.
The Bears got off to a slow start from kickoff but woke up quickly after an early Massena scoring opportunity hit the post. The Bears started to control the ball better throughout the first 10 minutes of the game.
However, the game’s momentum quickly shifted when Massena scored off a far-side shot in the Bears net with 24 minutes to go. The Bears kept the pressure on the Massena defense. Still, Massena did well keeping the Bears from getting any dangerous scoring opportunities by clearing the ball out of their defensive half.
Both teams found it difficult to keep control of the ball for long before a turnover occurred as the first half went on. At the end of the first half, the Bears were trailing the Raiders 1-0.
The Bears had a stronger start to the second keeping possession of the ball while moving it downfield. The Bears gave themselves plenty of great scoring chances but weren’t able to capitalize on any of them until late in the half. A bouncing ball in the Raider’s box found its way to Zadok Roiger off Tomi Husenic’s leg. Roiger would tie the game up at 1-1 with four minutes remaining in the half.
The Bears and Raiders took the game to overtime but the game ended in a tie with 1 minute left to go in overtime.
