In what proved to be a grueling battle on the court, the Golden Bears suffered a hard-fought loss against the Red Raiders, falling four sets to one. The match, played at the new Canton Athletic Center, showcased the grit and determination of both teams, but ultimately, the bears couldn’t overcome the fierce opposition.

The opening set saw Massena come out strong, leading by as much as 10 points before Canton managed a late surge to tighten the set but still lose, 25-22. Undeterred, the Bears responded in the second set with improved defense and sharp attacks, winning 25-19 to tie the game at 1-1.
The third and fourth sets were tightly contested, with both teams trading points in long rallies. Despite resilient effort from players like Elle White, who racked up 12 kills and Haley Perrin, who led the team in digs, the Red Raiders edged out victories in both sets, 25-12 and 25-19, to pull ahead 3-1.
“We played well at times. We need more consistency and offensive diversity,” Coach Wentworth said after the game. “I am proud of the comeback the girls made in the first set. We fought hard but some crucial errors from a young team just made the difference,”
The loss puts Canton at 3-5, but with more games ahead, they’ll have plenty of opportunities to bounce back. Next game is scheduled for Monday, 10/7 at home when the Bears take on the Malone Huskies during Pink Out week.
