
On Tuesday, the Bears XC teams got to race at home for the first time since 2022 on a course slightly changed by the Capital Project. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams soared easily to a victory over Tupper Lake, Malone, and Brushton-Moira. The Canton boys took the win even though they were still unable to field their strongest top five due to injuries and illness, and the girls fielded their first full team performance with a strong win.
The boy’s raced first, flying to a 1-4 finish with a strong senior pack. Daniel Armendariz-Huang placed first in 17:54.67, Rylan Lee-Powell placed second in 18:03.16, Lucas Watts placed third in 18:26.99, and Aiden Rodriguez-Doyle placed fourth in 18:35.30. Huskies runners Carter Johnston and Kyle Sims placed fifth and sixth in 19:54.81 and 19:55.68, and Canton Junior Duncan Harper rounded out the Bears’ top five in 20:01.58, placing seventh. In the final scores, Canton beat Malone 17 to 41, Brushton-Moira 15 to 43, and Tupper Lake 15 to 45.
The girl’s team was led to their win by sophomore Ori Casserly, who placed first in the meet in 23:02.72. Second place was claimed by Brexyss Gerow in 23:36.60, and Una O’Connell from Malone placed third in 23:48.18. Canton sophomore Lena Frank finished fourth in 24:14.05, followed by her teammate Violet Foster in fifth, who ran a time of 25:54.79. Canton’s other scoring runners were Addison Reagan (ninth place, 28:31.86) and Lorelei Harper (10th place, 28:43.08). In the final scores, the Bears won all three matchups: 23 to 34 against Brushton-Moira and 21 to 36 against Malone.
