Boys Varsity Soccer Falls to Plattsburgh

On Thursday, September 5 the Canton Boys Varsity Soccer team traveled to Chazy to face off against the Plattsburgh Hornets in the annual Frankie Garrow Tournament. The Golden Bears fell to Plattsburgh 2-1 in regulation.

The Golden Bears were forced to play a strong defensive game from kickoff. Plattsburgh controlled the ball for most of the first half, putting pressure on the Canton defense. The Bears Sweeper, Junior Gavin Schryver, protected the net well, keeping the ball to the outside of any dangerous scoring areas.

Of the few shots the Hornets could get off, the Bear’s Goalkeeper, Senior Jackson Ames, was there to make the stop. Ames put up an impressive eight saves in the first half.

Plattsburgh made it difficult for the Golden Bears to get the ball into Plattsburgh’s defensive end. At the end of the first half the game remained scoreless.

The first goal of the game was scored just five minutes into the second half after Plattsburgh crossed the ball into the Bears’ 18 yard box. A Plattsburgh forward placed a hard shot high far side past Ames.

Around the 30-minute mark, Plattsburgh increased their lead to two after Plattsburgh moved the ball into the Bears’ box and placed a shot into the low left corner.

The Bears started to generate more offense following Plattsburgh’s second goal. However, they were unable to score until 14:20 after Sophomore Tomi Husenic was fouled in the Hornets’ box. Husenic would score making it a 2-1 game. The Bears continued to fight but were unable to tie the game before time ran out.
