In Canton on Tuesday afternoon on Ike Noble Fields, Canton 12, Salmon River 2
The Central Division #2 seeded Canton Golden Bears Softball team hosted the #3 seeded Salmon River Shamrocks on Tuesday afternoon at Ike Noble Fields In Canton. The young Bears outscored the Shamrocks by the score of 12-2. Also last night, #1 seeded Gouverneur defeated #4 seed Ogdensburg by a score of 16-0 thereby securing a matchup which everyone in the softball world has been waiting for. Back on April 10th the Bears were defeated by the Wildcats by a score of 7 to 5. By the end of the April the Bears flipped that loss with a 9 to 1 victory in Gouverneur. The Class B Championship game against Gouverneur will be held this Thursday at St. Lawrence University. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm.
The Bears were led by Tessa Alguire who smacked three hits including a triple. Maya Thomas and Jenna Larrabee also slapped two hits each. Alguire also picked up the win from the circle, pitching seven innings, striking out seven.
“It was a hot day and Tessa really had to grind her way through the last couple innings. I was very happy with our defense behind her today and our aggressive approach at the plate. Jenna Larrabee has started to hit the ball and that really lengthens our batting order. She has been grinding and working her way through a slump but she is getting hot at the right time. Next up, the Cats; we will see who has the better day on Thursday,” stated Coach Wentworth.
